Maropeng Hotel

Under an hour’s drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria, the Maropeng Hotel is rather a paradox – an upmarket four-star boutique hotel, located on the site where the common human ancestors once foraged for food.

‘Maropeng’ is a Setswana word meaning ‘returning to the place of origin’, an apt name given the history of the place now recognised the world over as the Cradle of Humankind.

Accommodation

The overriding theme was kept in mind and incorporated into the hotel design. The four elemental forces of nature: earth, fire, water and ice, also feature prominently in the architectural style.
